Hide from God?
Greetings in the Strong Name of Jesus!!
I Kings 14:5 - “But the Lord had told Ahijah, “Jeroboam’s wife will come here, pretending to be someone else. She will ask you about her son, for he is very sick. Give her the answer I give you.” NLT
I remember when I was a young boy and my father took his first pastorate. It was in a very small town. The church building was small but had some Sunday school classrooms and other great hiding places. Sometimes we would play hide-n-seek in the church building. Because of the age of the building, it had no bathroom inside, only an outhouse outside. This, too was great hiding place if you could put up with the smell long enough to stay hidden. There were other times we would play in the cornfields and the barns. It really didn’t matter where we hid someone would eventually find you and we would start the game all over again.
I also remember in my younger years; I would attempt to hide things from my parents. But they had this way of always knowing there was something going on with me or that I was hiding something from them. Interestingly, I carried that into my adult life as I tried to hide things from God. Our scripture today comes from the account of King Jeroboam who was a sinful King. He led the people into idol worship and detestable things against God. But just like us, when he got into trouble or when something was really wrong, he would attempt to go to the Lord for help. His son was very sick and about to die and he knew he could not go to God because of his sinful life so he sent his wife in a disguise to seek help from the Lord for his sick son. He apparently thought that if his wife was disguised her inquiry of the Lord’s prophet would bring a message of healing and his son would live. But as the wife of Jeroboam approached the home of the old prophet, God spoke to the prophet and told him who she was. The message that followed was certainly one the King did not want to hear. It really didn’t matter that the King’s wife was disguised, God knew who she was and the message was still the same - you have sinned and your son will die.
Have you ever tried to hide from God or hide something from God? Rest assured of this - no matter how you disguise yourself or try to conceal your actions, God knows and the answer that He gave you before is the answer He will give you now - stop sinning and get right with Me. God always knows your heart and your actions. Stop playing hide-n-seek in the outhouse of life and uncover the detestable things. Freely and openly give them to God and His message will be the same as it has been for years - come unto Me all you who are weighed down with your sins, I will give you forgiveness and rest.
You are loved, Pastor Roger
