What have you seen?

Luke 10:23-24 - "Then when they were alone, he turned to the disciples and said, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you have seen. I tell you, many prophets and kings longed to see what you see, but they didn't see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn't hear it."  NLT

I sometimes get discouraged because I think I would like to see and experience the God of Moses as He spoke out of the Heavens, or demonstrated Himself by bringing water from the rock, or seeing the Pillar of Cloud or Fire.  And then I read this verse.  "Blessed are the eyes that see what you have seen...."  What does that mean for you and me?

Let's think on that for a moment......Okay.  Here is what it means to me.  Greater men than me gave their entire lives to speaking about something to happen in the future.  Men of God who gave up their normal lives to tell the world they lived in about the coming of a time when (fill in the blank) .....   Men like Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, John the Revelator, and others.  These were great men of God speaking as the mouthpiece of God about things yet to come.  Specifically, about a Messiah, a Savior, Christ the Lord.  They were mocked, ridiculed, threatened, and rejected.  They were the laughing stock of the community and yet they stayed on course doing what God told them to do.  Ever been there?  Have you experienced some of the same?  You are in great company.  But there is more.

Not only are you in good company, you are more blessed than they were in this...you and I have experienced or witnessed many of the future events of which they spoke.  We have history books that confirm prophetic words.  But most importantly we have a history of an old rugged Cross that held a man named Jesus Christ.  We have a history of an empty tomb where that man laid for only a few days.  Even more than that, if you have received Jesus Christ as your Savior, you have a personal witness of the Messiah of whom the prophets spoke.  Praise God.  You and I have witnessed and experienced what the prophets longed for.  And if those events took place, there is an even greater event yet to come...living for all eternity with the One who died for us.  John the Revelator spoke of the time yet to come when the dead in Christ would rise and then those who are alive would join them in the sky!

The next time you feel discouraged because you haven't seen God's hand writing on a wall at a party...first, rejoice that God doesn't need to do that to get your attention and second, remember, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you have seen...."  And never forget - the best is yet to come!

You are loved and prayed for!
